The world is the “theological place” in which to seek and know God. All the challenges for the conversion of the world and the reform of the Church come from here.This realisation led Fr. Lombardi into a broader appreciation of the contemplative dimension of Christian life. It took root in him as the contemplation of the presence of “the God of history” and of “history in God”. In him, this silence-listening became the starting point of Christian spirituality; and this is what he proposed to others. All comes from encountering, deciphering, contemplating the event of God-Trinity who is in communion with humankind. The Spirit of Christ acts – without violating human autonomy – in the depth of the events of history. And from with history, the Spirit moves humanity towards the fullness of unity. This is the spiritual meaning of the “reading of the signs of the times”: to be attuned to and in tune with the action of God in history.This is the key of the spiritual motivation of Fr. Lombardi and his Group.
