Synod of the Children in Tunja - Colombia PDF Print E-mail
Aware that the second stage of the Diocesan Project concluded with a synod to celebrate the faith of the People of God, the Archbishop proposed that a first part of the Synod, to be held between 2004-2006, would be of a more “pastoral and normative” nature. This was the opportunity for the new generation of priests and laity to deepen their understanding of the essential elements of the Diocesan Project, in conjunction with the normal second phase of the journey. At the end of this synodal journey, the Archbishop thought it opportune to have a synodal process with the children. Besides interesting them in the diocesan process, this gave them to chance to participate in offering ideas for the pastoral care of children. It is hoped that through this experience they will become protagonists in their own pastoral process and feel that they are active participants in the journey of the Archdiocese. As a token of affection we called it the “Sinodito” or “Little Synod”.

Voghera: The Synod of a parish community PDF Print E-mail
Among the parishes in Voghera there is one dedicated to St. Peter, entrusted to the Congregation of Don Orione. From 1992, the parish had been following a process of evangelisation and renewal. After the birth of the small communities in 1999, the parish began a systematic stage of deepening of faith, and this culminated in the experience of the parish Synod, from 18 to 25 March. The preparation took place over a year, during which time they drew up documents on the Needy, Adult-Youth Relationships, Family, Acceptance and Welcome, and Community Relations. In the week of the Synod, 16 “synodal groups” reviewed the documents in order to discover also how God was calling them to respond in these situations. The Synodal Assembly, with the concluding Mass celebrated by their Bishop, Martino Canessa, was a fitting end to this church event.

Forli': another transformation PDF Print E-mail
The Quuen of Peace Parish at Forli celebrated seven years of faith journey with an important event which took place from 18-25 March. Bishop Lino Pizzi presided in the official opening, encouraging all to rediscover that the Church is a community of brothers and sisters, gathered in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. From Monday to Friday, the small groups met – about 15 adults in each group. On the basis of their experience, 43 groups decided that this was not an isolated experience but a new and habitual opportunity for their Christian life. They intend to meet each month. The results were more than their expectations. Fr. Roberto Rossi, parish priest, expressed his joy at the event, along with all those who took part, especially because because there had been an air of scepticism beforehand. The design of a church-communion continues to advance!

A parish becomes community! PDF Print E-mail
Another parish – dedicated to Mary – in the diocese of Milan, has celebrated its Week of Community, after a journey over several years. Seven days of communication and reflection on the Word of God, from 4-11 March, in groups of 15-20 persons, gathered in homes around the parish. In an atmosphere of joy, people recounted an event that exceeded their expectations. Thirty two small communities will continue to meet in this style each month - and so the profile of the parish has changed! In the concluding celebration, each small community presented a symbol: hands linked, key of the house and the heart, bricks for building Church, flowers in bud... All want to continue along this path even though there will shorthly be a change of parish priest. It was a week in which the parish discovered the truth of what Jesus said: “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there in their midst”.

With the Group in Korea PDF Print E-mail

What an interesting two weeks in Andong, right in the heart of the cultural centre of Korea. We used the prosepctive method of analysis to reflect on the situation, particularly from the religious and cultural point of view, and the implications for evangelisation and for growing as Church, home and school of communion. About forty members were involved over the two weeks, priests, religious and laity from different dioceses in South Korea. Translations were the order of the day, with the results of our work being produced in English and Korean.
