ACHILLE NZENGU MULOMBA MUIPATAYI
03/09/1939 - 15/02/2008
Priest from MBUJIMAYI
Diocese, Eastern Kasai, R.D. Congo
Member of PG from 1982
Member of GD of PG from 1991 to 2003
Coordinator of AFIC (Afra) Area from 2003 to 2007
Dear sisters and brothers and friends of Community Animation Service, I am giving a sad news today, that of the death of our dear friend and brother Achille Nzengu.
We have received the news from a house of the diocese of Venice, where he had moved after the end of his international commitment in the General Direction, since he had to stay in Italy for health reasons. In these last few weeks he was hospitalised. For quite a long period he was able to recover almost completely from his first attack of cancer, which affected him after his first election in the General Direction, in 1991. After 8 years of untiring service in the GD, he worked also as Coordinator of the AFIC (Afra) Area. It has been the greatest commitment and concern of his life, up until the last moment. We had received bad news from him recently, it seemed that the therapies were not able to give him any relief, he had tried many and he felt weaker and weaker.
On last Saturday he had a sudden aggravation because of a fall in the hospital while trying to get out of the bed, he had an heart attack and was given the Extreme Unction; then he recovered and was conscious, although it was impossible to have him at the telephone. The sister superior of that house told me this morning that the Vicar of the diocese opened his testament, where he expressed the will of celebrating his funerals in his country. Their priority now is to organise this last journey as soon as possible.
We are giving the news to pray with us and for him, he has finally found the eternal Peace after so much suffering.
On behalf of all here,
Ilaria

The 13th Pastoral Cenacle of the Service of Community Animation of the Movement for a Better World was held in Rome from 7-26 October. It was convened with the slogan “Shaping the future, faithful to God’s gift”. What was particular about this Cenacle, on the eve we could say of the centenary of Fr. Lombardi’s birth, was indicated by its objective: “to share our experience of the life and mission of the Group, in a climate of communion, indicating a model for successive Cenacles”. The Cenacle members represented 30 groups from different continents, and we appreciated the presence among them of two bishop-members: Bishop Gilles Cote of Papua New Guinea and Bishop Ismael Rueda of Colombia. The Cenacle evaluated the state of the Group’s mission in the various environments, and addressed some main issues. It also elected the new general direction for the period of 2007-2011, and took on a new method for the Group’s planning at all levels. As a whole, it was a good experience of realism in living the universality and communion of our group.

During the general audience in St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday 24 October, Benedict XVI addressed himself to the members of the Cenacle 2007 with the following words:
"I greet in a special way the members of the Missionary Service of Community Animation of the Movement for a Better World, founded as a result of the priestly zeal of Fr. Riccardo Lombardi. While encouraging them in their intense and capillary apostolate, I pray that their commitment might contribute effectively to the new evangelization”.

This concentrated activity, which began towards the end of May, will continue for the whole month of June. It is one of the most intense and important moments of the service of community animation carried out by the Group in Italy. Antonella and Enzo, members FT, are visiting dozens of parishes and several dioceses, from one end of Italy to the other. Included are some inter-parish or inter-diocesan meetings. In these visits and meetings, they are taking up the evaluation of the pastoral year, clarifying key points of the ideal vision of the Church and deepening the spiritual conversion needed for not reducing the pastoral action to mere organisation. They are also assisting them in formulating their objectives and making crucial choices for a new stage of the journey. We are following their work with interest and accompanying Antonella and Enzo in their apostolic journeys.
