When we say “spirituality of communion”, we are referring to the Christian experience made up of a single and unbreakable network of three apects, lived as community-church at all levels.
1. Christian spirituality arises from the reading of the signs of the times. In this way we enter into a first and radical form of communion with the event of God present and working in our everyday history. This is related to a prophetic attitude though which situations are lived as the place of God’s salvation. The places “hell” happens through human hatred and evil are used by the God whose Name is Love as “privileged places” of salvation. An appropriate method allows us to learn the discipline of attentiveness to situations, discovering in them the signs of God’s action.
2. The priestly dimension of Christian spirituality flows out of this prophetic dimension. This is the second aspect of communion. The event of communion in our everyday history, contemplated and taken on, becomes the principle of new relationships, lived out in processes of growth, in renewed lifestyles. In this way the people of God is re-born, holy and called to holiness, sign of unity among human beings.
3. Finally, Christian spirituality is expressed in the royal or servant dimension. The gift of communion, welcomed as event and lived as vocation, now becomes mission-witness, a commitment in solidarity. As witnesses of what we want to bring about, we outline the major features of the “world to be remade”., of the “church to be built”, of the “ministry to be lived”. In this way, as persons and as community, we grow in a unity of life,in our way of seeing, being and acting that is life in the Spirit. This is, in synthesis, what we understand as the “Spirituality of Communion”.
